The Show Case Gallery
The Show Case Gallery is a collection of student work throughout the school year. Included in this display are several projects that the students have completed throughout the year.
- Collective Nouns Posters: Students in grade 8 studied the difference between compound nouns and collective nouns. As a class project the students created a list (A-Z) of collective nouns. Using the template for the Motivator Poster each student created a poster. Some of the collective nouns used have been around for a while, like a gaggle of geese while others came up with creative ideas to call a group objects.
- Concrete and Abstract Tag Clouds: What a neat way to learn about concrete and abstract nouns! Students were divided into cooperative learning teams to look for and collect as many concrete and abstract nouns as they could in a designated amount of time. When the timer went off, each group rotated to the next station where they added new nouns to the poster. Each team completed the gallary walk until they returned home again. By this time, each group had a wide variety of interesting and unique nouns on their posters. From those posters, students used Tagedo. com to create both a concrete and abstract tag cloud in which to display the information gained from this class activity.
- Poetry Writing: The Haiku: A haiku is a short poem in seventeen syllables, arranged in three lines following a 5-7-5 pattern. The 8th grade students published some amazing poetry. The first step in the completion of our Haiku was the 1st draft of the poem which students completed on notebook paper. Lots of revision occurred before they were able to publish. Using Power Point and public domain images, WOW! what a neat project this turned out to be. Some students were so please they created more than one Haiku.
